Life Force Lesson #11: Practice, Patience, and Perseverance

Softness triumphs over hardness, gentleness over strength.
The flexible is superior over the immovable.
This is the principle of controlling things
By going along with them, of mastery through adaptation.
—Lao-Tzu

Pursuing an alternative lifestyle is never easy. It often elicits floods of resistance from family and social circles, and requires great patience and perseverance in the face of obstacles. For me, it took more than twelve years of dedicated practice to reach my current level of self-awareness and self-sovereignty. I also had the help and encouragement of extraordinary teachers.

As for the floods of resistance, in my own case, I found that everyone had an opinion—mostly unsupportive, because my approach challenged their values. The obstacles grew based on how far away I veered from my expected course in terms of religious upbringing, social conditioning, peer pressure, and family expectations. But I knew that I had to face these obstacles and fully own my power in order to revive my authentic self, the one who’d been caged and silenced for far too long.

Take the Time You Need to Heal
Our work at Natalia Rose Institute is all about healing, nurturing, and growing, not quick fixes that have no lasting power and usually turn out to be more harmful than healthful in the long run. We are here to support true healing, in the deepest and most expansive meaning of the word—not to keep some kind of false peace with the body until all hell breaks loose again and another ceasefire is required!

We would get nowhere without patience and perseverance. My personality is naturally impetuous. I had to learn patience the hard way—by slamming into walls in my haste to achieve all my goals at lightning speed. I know for a fact that many of you are similarly wired because I read about it in your letters. Well, here in the Natalia Rose Institute community is one place where we serve ourselves far better with a healthy dose of patience and perseverance.

People tend to have a short memory when it comes to cleansing. They think after a week or so of juicing and eating only salads they should be clean. They forget all the soda, processed foods, hormone- and antibiotic-injected animal products, pasteurized cow dairy, birth control pills, alcohol, pharmaceuticals, and/or recreational drugs they’ve consumed over the course of their lives—not to mention the generations of compromised DNA they received through their lineage! The cumulative damage to our cells and DNA is profound, not something that can be shaken off after only a week, month, or even a year of cleansing. It takes years to rectify our deep-rooted imbalances and achieve a truly beautiful, clean-celled body.

Keep in mind that raw foods and juices alone are not going to bring you back into alignment. For example, eating all raw or strictly vegan won’t necessarily ensure that you will live better or longer than your non-raw, non-juicing peers. You will also need to remove internal obstructions consistently over time. Eating a cleaner diet is just one essential component of the larger picture. The removal of obstruction (both physical and mental) is the actual fulcrum of healing.

This is where the patience and persistence comes in! You can juice for a weekend and drop a few pounds, but your body will go right back to its old stats unless you remove the obstruction that the juice fast awakened—and then continue to awaken and release more and more of that obstruction. Those that stay in the game, awakening and releasing for months and years, are the ones that reach the ecstasy of cleansing. The extended journey is what eventually cleans and elevates the blood chemistry and unblocks the internal pathways, enabling Life Force to surge and conduct through your body. As the cleansing reaches those depths, the alchemy happens: the internal organs are revived by the higher-caliber blood, skin tissue reflects the strengthened internal body, and energy soars. This is the true meaning of rejuvenation!

Our work here at Natalia Rose Institute is not about covering up our physical imperfections. Rather, it’s about pulling back the curtain on all the internalized toxicity that you’ve been carrying around with you and spent years of your life trying to hide. If you are still new to this work, you probably have some very deep toxicity that will emerge in waves. Don’t be embarrassed. No one who matters is judging you. In fact, here in the Natalia Rose Institute community, we’re all cheering you on! This work only gets better over time. Don’t give up. Give your body a chance to regenerate itself from the inside out.

Stay the Course of Cleansing
Physical aging and deterioration accompanied by feelings of weakness and fatigue are not factors of how many times you have ridden around the sun, but of what you have accumulated as you have gone around the sun! If you cleanse and maintain an alkaline-rich diet of primarily fresh fruits and veggies, and you are still feeling weak or lacking power for your workouts, it is due to one or more of the following reasons:

  1. You are awakening waste without releasing it.You have awakened matter that your bowel cannot release on its own. Therefore, your center is blocked and the awakened poisons are flooding your bloodstream, making you feel ill and tired. You need either bowel cleansing or a less than perfect meal to help ease your bowel’s transition to clean foods—one or the other, but preferably the former.
  2. You are experiencing withdrawal symptoms. You are so addicted to the stimulation of cooked proteins, whey/soy/protein energy bars, coffee, refined sugar, flour, soda, etc. that your body is not coping with the change. The problem is that you’re having withdrawal symptoms—not that the clean diet is failing to deliver energy. You probably need to transition more slowly. People are often deceived into thinking they need meat when, after a week of a meat-free diet, they eat a steak and suddenly feel “energized.”This is a false fire! Acidic, dense substances can never give you real energy, only stimulation. To an unclean body addicted to the stimulation, continuing to consume such substances feels good and familiar. Stopping too suddenly leads to withdrawal symptoms and a feeling of weakness. Hence, people often associate a clean diet with feeling weak. This is why making a gradual transition away from the old foods, rather than going cold turkey, is so crucial. It will help you avoid many pitfalls!
  3. You are still a slave to the old mental programming. Mental programming is a powerful thing. For years you’ve been absorbing the erroneous propaganda that only calorie-dense substances can sufficiently energize you. You’ve also been conditioned to expect quick, linear results from health regimens. But when the average obstructed body undergoes deep cleansing, it must slow down to conduct internal triage. When this happens, you might grow impatient and lose heart, but I urge you to stay the course. It often takes persistence in the face of a temporary impasse to yield a major breakthrough. But you have to stick with it!

Keep an Eye on the Big Picture

The detox lifestyle is largely a case of mind over matter: work to reverse your thinking and align with the greater truth. Most of all, keep an eye on the big picture of cleansing. A clear body is an energized body. Arnold Ehret said it nearly a hundred years ago: Vitality = Power – Obstruction. However, “Power” may not have been the clearest word choice, so, with all due respect to Ehret, let me rephrase this slightly: Vitality = Electromagnetic Conductivity – Obstruction. In other words, when the electromagnetic conductivity can rush unobstructed through the body, you will experience uncompromised vitality!

Every time you’re feeling impatient or a little less energized than you want to feel, ask yourself how clear your pathways are and how well your cells are conducting the electromagnetic power. Even when you’re blocked, this energy is always lying dormant within you, ready to be unleashed. But you cannot expect your body to release all the obstructions and toxicity that it has accumulated over a lifetime and regenerate clean cells overnight. True healing requires visionary practice, patience, and perseverance. If the duration and requirements get you down, just consider for a moment the alternative—hospitals, medication, countless unsexy symptoms and a steady, disempowerment, and a general decline. Green Lemonade, raw salads, and colonics, please!

Do all you can to remove any blockages—physical and mental—and then feel your body come alive with the blissful vibration of life force conducting through you. Your authentic, revitalized self will begin to emerge like a butterfly from a chrysalis, and soon you’ll be able to take wing!

This concludes our eleventh lesson. In next week’s final edition of The Rose Program Insider, we will close with a meditation on our highest aspirations and the true meaning of beauty.

Ana’s Lazy Girl Food Tip: Relax & Enjoy

One of my biggest challenges with food and feeding myself properly has been emotional eating. I ate when I was scared, sad, lonely, tired, cold. And I ate to calm social anxiety, to celebrate happy events, and sometimes even to intentionally hurt myself when I was feeling like I’d really let myself down. Author Annie Lamott (one of my favorites) has called this assault eating, and I whole-heartedly agree.

Getting into a place of relaxation and calm before dinner is essential. Natalia always recommends a bath before a meal, and it helps tremendously.

If I don’t have time to take a bath, or if I’m out and about in the city and I am not able to run home it often seems impossible to get focused. Emotional eaters all know that once the ball starts rolling it only picks up speed if there’s no interception.

The quick and easy meditation that I recommend to clients is the one that has consistently worked for me from the beginning. It started as a non-religious way to say grace, and I have realized that gratitude and connection are the most important things for me.

I look down at my food (mostly vegetables) and close my eyes. I get a beautiful picture in my mind of where my food came from. I see a field of greens, tomato and cucumber vines. I can feel the hot sun, and smell the soil, and I silently say thank you. It takes only one minute, but honoring our food is a way to honor the body. A meal of those beautiful growing things is a wonderful way to tell yourself, “I love you.”

Recipe of the Week by Natalia Rose Institute Executive Chef Doris Choi: Perilla Salad

Perilla Salad

For Salad

  • 4 heads romaine lettuce, shredded
  • Handful perilla leaves, made into chiffonade
  • 2 English cucumbers, julienned
  • ½ package 100% soba noodles, cooked and rinsed well

For Dressing

  • ½ cup Nama Shoyu soy sauce
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon ginger, minced
  • Pinch of crushed red pepper
  • ½ bunch scallions, minced
  • Pinch of black pepper

Shred the romaine by laying down the head of lettuce on a cutting board, stabilizing the top, tip down, with one hand and slicing thinly across after the stem. Chiffonade the perilla leaves by lining them up on top of each other, rolling them up, and slicing them thinly. Using a julienne peeler, such as the Titan brand, julienne the English cucumbers into ribbons. Mix the salad ingredients together, place the cooked soba noodles on top, and dress With the Nama Shoyu mixture.

Testimonial from Leslie

Hi Natalia,

I am on Day 9 of your Detox 4 Women plan. I have been taking Candex since Day 1 and am about to finish an entire bottle of it. I didn’t have a yeast infection, but I assumed that I probably had too much Candida as a result of taking the pill for 10 years and eating acidic foods for a lifetime (26 years). I have already lost 9 lbs and feel great 🙂 Thank you so much.

Life Force Lesson #12: Take Root, Take Wing, Radiate Beauty from Within

We humans cannot truly soar until we’ve first cultivated deep, healthy roots. We all want to enjoy the highs of life-including romantic love, professional success, and other forms of excitement and personal achievement-but unless our highs are equal to our depths, our highs will set us up for terrible falls. Chasing after highs without any grounding knowledge is a hollow pursuit indeed.

Yes, I can understand the temptation to escape and hide from yourself when you are suffering from constant stress, illness, and disappointment. And yes, I know that digging deep to the root causes of your suffering and cultivating a more life-generating perspective requires effort, but the rewards of such work are beyond measure. If you want to radiate true health and beauty in this lifetime, there is no other way.

I encourage you to spread your wings and take flight, but just be sure you are not merely trying to escape from your norms. The greatest highs in life come from both internal and external pursuits. There are thrills of the body, the heart, the spirit, and the mind-and when these all come together in harmony, it’s nirvana! Do not neglect the beauty and richness of your inner life for solely external pursuits.

What Is Beauty, Really?

Our culture is obsessed with beauty. And let’s face it, who doesn’t want to be beautiful and sexy and desirable? Everywhere we turn, there are glossy advertisements for products appealing to this desire to be beautiful, and there are throngs of people who are buying into their promises. We are socially conditioned from a very young age to want the perfect body, the perfect face, the perfect skin, and perfect clothes-and all the trappings of vanity that come with them: sex, money, and power. But if we look closer, what is this obsession with beauty all about, really? Is it just superficial, or does it indicate some deeper biological imperative at work in our lives?

Many people come to Natalia Rose Institute seeking weight loss, rejuvenation, clearer skin, and the other hallmarks of surface beauty. But those who undertake the detox lifestyle discover that they really want so much more. The desire to be beautiful, deep down, is the desire to be given a chance to love and be loved. It is a desire to conduct joy and vitality-to be free to be oneself, not to hide behind expensive fashion trends and status symbols. When you cleanse your heart and your body, you naturally begin to shed the commonly held ideals of external beauty and awaken to the only beauty that matters: the kind that shines from within, emitting a fresh, natural, authentic glow. Any good art designer or plastic surgeon can produce a picture-perfect image based on the current marketing and fashion trends. Real beauty, however, makes you feel good through and through. Beauty is synonymous with clarity, love, and light-and no designer clothing or cosmetic product, no matter how ingeniously engineered, can deliver or even simulate these things for you.

When you release old patterns, aggressions, and fears; when you are pure of purpose and of spirit; when you have laid deep, healthy roots that can freely absorb and conduct clean energy from the soil, air, water, sunlight, and the life circulating all around you, you cannot help but radiate beauty-physically and spiritually. When you are beautiful within, you no longer have anything to hide or cover up. You become lighter and freer and more joyful in your own skin. You open yourself up to light and love and naturally connect with the inner beauty of others. You can finally stop obsessing about your looks because you actually embody and radiate beauty with every breath you take. True beauty, therefore, is the not vanity at all, but the natural expression of a deep and expansive love of life!

Plant Flowers, Don’t Cut Them

There’s a popular dermatologist with a new book out, and on the cover he appears standing with a bunch of freshly cut long-stem strawberries. The title of the book promises youth in no uncertain terms. What is the problem with this picture? Here’s a big hint: It’s why I taught my children never to pick flowers, and why those who know me well don’t bring me cut flowers.

Life cut off from its source is unsustainable. Think of it. The whole concept of this cover image is a lie, but the giveaway of the misguided consciousness underpinning the project is the cut fruit. Most people will see the promise of freshness and beauty in the fruit when those strawberries are in fact an example of life cut being tragically short in the service of instant, short-term gratification! Those strawberries, cut away from the vine of life, will be old and moldy in less than two days!

To put it most simply, life that is firmly rooted to its source will flourish-living long and well. Life that is cut off from its source will draw its last breath from its energy reserves, then wilt until all the energy has been drained away and decay takes over. The same is true for our bodies, for our whole beings.

We humans walk around in our bodies, seemingly unconnected to anything, believing all we need are some calories, vitamins, and omega fatty acids. That’s the herd mentality at work. The fact is, despite our lack of visible roots, we get our energy from the same sources that other living creatures do-from the sun and earth, unseen fibers of living energy that connect all life on this planet and reach across the solar system, and from other plant life and organisms that pass along nutrients to us through the food chain. As long as we fail to recognize our true roots, our true sources of life force, and our interconnectedness, we will never summon enough energy to soar, much less stand tall and proud within our own bodies.

So remember, first plant your roots firmly, and then spread your wings wide. There is no greater high-no greater expression of beauty-than growing and evolving as nature intended!

Ana’s Lazy Girl Food Tip: Lunch at the Office

Eating meals in an office setting can sometimes be a challenge. The trick is to be prepared! Here are some suggestions that have worked for me and for my clients.

  1. Create a small office pantry of non-perishables to make sure that lunch is flavorful and enjoyable. Keeping a small jar of Dijon mustard, stevia, and your favorite herbal tea can help ensure that you’ll love your lunch, and have something warm and delicious to get you through an afternoon slump. Add a fork and a knife and you’ll have everything you need.
  2. Enhance your desk or cubicle with a decorative bowl of edibles instead of flowers. When I worked in an office environment, I brought in a beautiful glass bowl, which I filled every Monday morning with green apples, fresh lemons, and avocados. It was like a beautiful flower arrangement, and kept my desk area looking and smelling sweet.
  3. Keep a selection of delivery menus that you can order from on the days you haven’t been able to prepare. Sometimes it’s easier to order in than to bring lunch from home. Getting or printing menus of local restaurants that deliver salads, steamed vegetables, veggie soup, guacamole, or other fresh, raw, well-combined options is essential. The vendors will get to know your order, and you will have the freedom of not having to bring lunch every day.
  4. Shop for a selection of fresh raw vegetables on Sunday evening so you won’t have to worry about shopping during the busy work week. Keep 5 boxes of organic greens and a selection of chopped vegetables in your fridge at home, so in the morning you can grab a small container of your favorite raw salad toppings and a box of greens and run out the door. (Remember, lemons and avocados await you at work!)
  5. Bake or steam a selection of veggies on Sunday as well, so you can grab and go on the following days. Slow-roasted beets, baked sweet potatoes, and vegetable soup are all great lunch options that can be cooked in advance for the week ahead. If you would like to include a cooked option with your lunch salad, it will be ready to go.

Preparing for your week by doing some shopping, chopping, and cooking will also help you stay committed to your goals. Every Sunday you are renewing your vow to yourself that you are going to spend the week caring for your body and cleansing your blood!

Love,
Ana

Recipe of the Week by Natalia Rose Institute Executive Chef Doris Choi: Chocolate Fix

CHOCOLATE BEET CAKE

  • 3 cups red beet puree (roast beets in oven at 400°F for 1 hour)
  • ½ cup agave nectar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • ⅓ cup chocolate powder
  • 1 cup millet flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • Zest of an orange (any type)
  • Pinch of salt

Preheat the oven at 350°F.

Combine all the wet ingredients first, and then mix in all the dry ingredients. (Work quickly because the baking soda and vinegar will start bubbling, and they are what will make the cake moist and fluffy.)

Put the mixture in a mini loaf pan or a cupcake tin greased with a little coconut oil and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove when the cakes are slightly soft in middle.

Doris, I honestly never thought I could have my cake and eat it too! – Ana Ladd-Griffin

Testimonial from Macha

Dear Natalia,

Thank you so much for coming on the show back in July. Because of you and your books, I have changed my life. I was starting to change my eating habits and then we had you on the show. I was so inspired that I read your Detox 4 Women and Raw Food Life Force Energy books. I did the 30-day detox and since July I have been eating high-vibration foods and feeling incredible. I have a 9-month-old baby and a three-year-old son and my body looks like I am 18. I am toned, firm and lean. My husband CANNOT stop complimenting me. Our relationship went from being good to out-of-this-world amazing.

I never thought I could look and feel this way. I radiate and glow. I am happy. I am inspired. All the moms want to know what I did and I send them directly to you. I know they bought the book because they come and ask me questions (also my local Whole Foods went from having a huge stock of frozen wheatgrass to just one box left the other day)!!!

So thank you! From the bottom of my heart. I feel at 33 years of age a feeling of happiness and vibrancy and deliciousness I always dreamed possible. If you ever want to do a workshop in Great Neck, let me know and I can set it up for you. I’m going to start a meditation class once a week combined with a discussion on how to live in light and create and sustain joy in our lives. I see the women around me hungry for this. I know I was. I think I can shed some light.

With so much gratitude,
Macha

Sovereignty Among Chaos

It’s as if there are two worlds vibrating in the same space right now – the world on the brink of war, directed by hypnotic media, government and commercial messages, doomed to incurable diseases and the world on the brink of bursting consciousness, of awakening to the remarkable destiny of the human being, surging with light!

The former is still in a reality we could call the “dark age,” one that leads to self-destruction. The latter is moving into a new reality, “the golden age.” This golden age could also be called a “golden state” because it exists when life (or an individual) is attuned with the pure Source energy — the heart of creation, the original energy (also referred to as “God” or the “Universe) from which life expresses.

Like radio stations, many different “realities” can occur simultaneously offering infinite wavelengths for one to tune into. We have always been able to elevate ourselves to our full human potential, but never before has there been such a strong impetus to do so. The implications of the dark state have reached a critical point that, like an alarm clock, have stirred the hearts of many to take action either personally or communally to find solutions.

In today’s world all free people have a very distinct and final choice to make – to either live in darkness, which basically implies becoming a slave to a sub-human paradigm or to follow a path of “bread crumbs” – of “truth vibrations” and ascend up and out of this common, dark consciousness in order to attune with a frequency that harmonizes with the vibration of Source.

In fact, I think the most important task for us all is to elevate our frequency to harmonize with Source. Doing so will ensure everything else in our lives is protected – a bit like calling “safe” in a game of tag.

There are so many forces vying to vampire our energy, our attention, all of our resources. Many will allow theirs to be leached and thereby lose all their power – these are the ones who will unwittingly subject themselves to big Pharma medicine, who’s minds will grow dim and dull from years of hypnotizing media, who will have non-functioning bladders and cancer-ridden prostates and spend their lives in depressing jobs to pay debts on things they never needed. These are the inevitable effects of submitting to the social norms of our day. The unwitting person is so easy to steal from and the media, government and commercial enterprises take full advantage of this vulnerability as they use everything in their arsenal to keep the masses in the unwitting state.

I don’t say this to be scary or dooming. It’s just that if you are attuned to the common station, this is how it is. Happily, this is not the only choice you have, that frequency is not the only radio station in town! You have always been able to attune to Source. That is your home frequency – what your being resonates with best, and you will know it to be so when you feel it. When you achieve that experience (which, like cell cleansing, is a visceral experience that you will undeniably feel on every level, not some ethereal concept) you will have another choice to make – to create a life in sync with the Source energy that will enable you to remain attuned to it or to attune to your previous frequency or something in between. The greatest beauty and the best choices will come from your most consistent attunement to Source energy. However, as you attune more consistently with this extraordinary sensation, you may go in and out of it for some time. That’s perfectly normal. As you hold these higher, harmonious frequencies longer and longer you will eventually achieve the supreme state of holding it, even as you move through the world with all it’s seeming ups and downs.

All the practices and principles we underscore at DetoxTheWorld are tools for elevating and harmonizing your frequency with Source. The raw green juices and dietetics that magnetize the old waste up and out of the cells, tissues and organs and the colon cleansing protocols help the physical body become less dense so it can vibrate higher and higher with more life force (Source energy) conducting through it. If you’ve experienced it, you know that electromagnetic energy surging through body is sheer bliss! Attuning with Source through meditation, dissolving your cultural programming through recapitulation exercises and increase awareness and then changing everything you are ready, willing and able to change to reflect this awakening work all serve to attune you in this way. Consciously attuning with Source energy is will make and keep us sovereign, enabling us to actualize and maintain our full potential as creative, loving, self-governing humans.

The practices of transitioning into a highly raw food diet, of drinking green juices, of meditating, of raising “life-force” families are far from ends unto themselves – or even from serving the physical body alone. They are all done for the greater interest of this noble attunement.

It’s also important to appreciate that if one wishes to be healthy, it is not enough to eat raw food, drink green juice and have a clean colon if one is otherwise attuned to the dark culture. That is why some people struggle with their lives even when they do these things to the letter. More and more, as the world dives deeper into chaos, those who wish to have full sovereignty (health, mind, spirit, relationships, creativity, etc.) must attune with Source. The downward pull has never been greater and without the frequency around and within you to prevent it, it’s inevitable that you will be pulled down with it.

The attuning of our being (with it’s multiple fields – physical, emotional, mental, etc.) is our greatest protection from the downward spiral that would make us slaves to commercial and political enterprise at the cost of our health, power, fertility and mental sovereignty.

When you undertake the practices that develop this harmony in place of the dissonance, you will own this sovereignty and appreciate that there is nothing more important you could own. And yes, you will also see that your body has been transformed, that your illnesses are no longer a part of you, nor are your old inclinations toward jealousy, greed, self-absorption. They will merely serve as memories of what a low, inharmonious vibration creates.

Rather than harboring fear and/or anger over the world’s descent into chaos, keep your eyes and heart on Truth and move toward it until you are fully immersed in it. There in you will find nothing but beauty, protection, inspiration, life and love. Enjoy the journey there – every green juice, every mediation that brings the bliss into your cells, every ring of truth through your body and every time you recognize the higher choice and make it!

All Love,
Natalia

DetoxTheWorld exists to provide you with the knowledge and inspiration you need to become harmonized with the Source energy and enjoy the fullest expression of your beautiful life!

Declare Your Interdependence!

Now that we’ve celebrated Independence Day, I’d like to suggest a greater event to celebrate — our INTER-dependence. But not as a day — as a way of life. Humans go through several stages of relationship on their course of development. First comes dependence – which we experience as baby and child when we depend on our parents and our community to keep us safe as we grow and teach us “the ropes.” Then comes independence, when we can care for ourselves and even teach the younger generation. Then, there’s this backward dysfunctional stage called “co-dependency” that unenlightened civilizations detour into called “co-dependency.” Suckled on a worldview of self-focus or what I call “separation consciousness,” a civilization emerges that does not know how to truly love or contribute harmony. For them power through possessing is their primary lens through which they understand the world. They grow up self-focused, fearful and emotionally imbalanced. From this imbalanced emotional state they try to connect with others. But because of a misguided understanding of how relationship with others should work, they wind up offering the other something in an unspoken exchange for something in return. In this way, the relationship is not based on pure sharing but on condition: “I love you because….” or “As long as you (fill in the blank), I will love you.” (Or rather I will give you my time, attention and approval and my body).

Sadly, far from being a short detour, co-dependency is the typical state of relationship in our culture. This is true not only in romantic relationships but in friendships, family and business relationships. There is a great, empowering leap to be made across the chasm between co-dependence and interdependence. If this leap is made successfully, we find out true freedom. Whereas co-dependency is the downward, relationship-deteriorating spiral, interdependence is the way to life-generating relationships, the upward spinning spiral that elevates man on every level.

How do we make this leap successfully? First we must understand that the interdependent model is the model that all life thrives within. It is the model of the universe: unity among diversity. This means that each individuated being from the smallest microbe to the largest planet moves synergistically with one another. This means we embrace one another’s differences because the differences support the whole. It requires that we strive to be authentic and protect life so life can thrive. It promises that we are great in the truest sense when others are great in the truest sense; we are healthy when the least of us is healthy and if there is pain or suffering in some area of life, it will reach us in some way. It also means that where we have an unhealthy world-view or harmful attitude or take more than we need, we will suffer personally for that imbalance we have contributed. Simply put, all of life is interconnected. We can resist this truth and die from the consequences or we can embrace this truth and thrive!

How will we gain our true sovereignty as individuals and as a planetary community? When we celebrate interdependence and revere it every day of the year. This, my friends is the new frontier, the destiny we are divinely ordained to manifest, the call for today’s pioneers — pioneers who know that there is a greater gold rush to tap than the one in the mid-1800’s. The gold of the life-force gushing from the opening hearts of enlightened humans. Here’s to making that “Westward Ho” over the mountains of our misguided cultural programs and social conditioning and through the rivers of our emotional imbalances that have led us into co-dependence. Let’s shed those uncomfortable uniforms and have a new revolution for the kind of freedom that truly puts an end to the tyranny of our lives. Let’s declare our INTER-dependence!

The Root of All Suffering: Wall Street or Wetiko?

What if I were to tell you there is a virus we have all been exposed to that has caused a severe form of psychosis, one that has led to virtually every known disease and form of suffering in the world today?

The virus, called wetiko, was first identified by the indigenous peoples of the Americas and written about by Jack Forbes in Columbus and Other Cannibals. Wetiko is a spiritual sickness that results in the deliberate and systematic exploitation of others. It is considered a form of cannibalism because it compels humans to consume the lives of other humans in pursuit of self-gratification. Worst of all, it is hereditary: it gets passed on from generation to generation through DNA, family tradition, and cultural conditioning.

On May Day, Occupy Wall Street (also International Workers’ Day) initiated its spring campaign, renewing its commitment to end social and economic inequality, greed, and corruption. Occupy Wall Street calls itself the 99%—in essence the ones who are exploited by wetiko’s accumulated wealth. But as we embrace this spring awakening of social consciousness, it is worth asking ourselves who the real enemy is. Is it the 1%, per se? Or is it the wetiko mindset? And if it’s the wetiko mindset, aren’t the 99% just as likely to be infected with it? Don’t we all share the same social programming and self-destructive inclinations? Would the 99% be the 1% ruling elite if they could? Given a choice, who among us would take only what we need?

Don’t get me wrong: I believe the mission of OWS is a noble one. It’s the take-action outcry against destructive social inequalities that our wetiko culture has created, and thank goodness so many people are defending the worth of the human spirit against the gross amassing of wealth! But we will not achieve any semblance of equality until we have cured ourselves of wetiko and moved toward unity consciousness—the understanding that life can thrive only as a whole interconnected web. By the same token, we must defeat the entrenched wetiko dogma that deems equality impossible; that says in order for the world to go round, there must be haves and have-nots. This belief, also known as separation consciousness, is at the root of our modern psychosis.

The problem is that wetiko is a kind of autoimmune psychosis. It does not merely harm that which it exploits; it also causes irrational, self-destructive behavior in its host. Such behavior is manifest in the overconsumption of toxic substances that we think we want and need—including drugs, chemically processed foods, fossil fuels, and insidious media messages—which lead to all manner of physical, psychological, and environmental imbalances. Thus, wetiko wages a powerful assault on the mind, body, and spirit of all who come into contact with it.

In the wetiko world, we seek individual power through the accumulation of goods, namely commodities that the collective group deems valuable. We also seek power by conforming to contemporary fashions—which, of commercial necessity, are always shifting in order to generate new “must-have” looks and products. The lords of wetiko wield ideals of wealth and beauty to control and increase their power over the likewise infected masses. Through advertising, marketing, political lobbying, and other means of mind control, they lure the masses to consume products that promise instant gratification but only leave them feeling empty and craving more.

The good news: wetiko is curable. But the cure must begin with ourselves. No one else can do it for us. Whether we are the 99% or the 1%, we are all on the same unsustainable course. Instead of just pointing the finger at others, we must do our own soul-searching and work to loosen the grip of wetiko on our minds. In order to do this, we must recall everything we know about how nature operates and link forces with it. Only nature’s wisdom has the power to defeat wetiko, which will fight hard to stay alive and keep us hooked into the beliefs that direct our actions, our purchases, our choices—all the consumer habits that have put the 1% in power, toppled our economy, and left us physically and spiritually denatured.

The only social revolution worthy of the human spirit is one that vanquishes wetiko and restores us to a state of true vitality: of thriving, interconnected life and respect for all life. This spring, let’s vow to stop feeding the psychosis with our own complicity. Let’s fight the good fight by opening our minds and hearts to the world and letting our better natures in.

If I Were a Bell, I’d Be Ringing!

That’s how I feel about holding little Electra in my arms finally. She made us wait for her–according to our dates, she arrived at 43 weeks, longer by other estimates! She was born at home in our bedroom in water, just as I had hoped she would be. As she is my third and last child, I’m so grateful to have had the experience of a home birth with her.

I must have been pretty loud because our neighbors below and above us called down to the doorman asking if they should call the police (they thought I was being murdered). The doorman let them know that I was just giving birth. They replied, “Gosh, she must be in a lot of pain.” I was. It was a 20-hour labor and far more grueling than I expected, given the fact that I am fit and strong and was at home in my sacred space. But never mind the pain – it was a textbook home birth that otherwise went along utterly safely and smoothly. My 5-star birthing team included my amazing husband, who was hard a work putting pressure on my lower back to counter the searing pain for hours at a time without a break; my doula, Kassie Anderson*, who coached and guided me all the way though (even when I didn’t think I could go on), and my brilliant midwife, Miriam Schwartschild.**

Weighing in at 7 pounds, 14 ounces (nearly 8 pounds), Electra was my biggest baby. Thanks to the water birth and great midwifery support, miraculously, her 26-cm head circumference and broad shoulders didn’t tear me a bit. With my smaller babies (Thandi and Tommy were both just 6.5 pounds) I required several stitches each. I delivered my other two “on land.”

Despite the intensity and duration of the labor, the baby’s heart rate remained steady the entire time and she emerged without incident (no cord issues or other fetal concerns that can be concerning at a home birth). I appreciate all the risks involved with a home birth (of course, to my mind, they are outweighed by the risks of a hospital birth–though not everyone would agree with me here), but it was a great feeling to see nature take her course in this way and deliver so smoothly. I will never forget the feeling of “catching” my own baby. My husband and I, both in the water together, reached down and brought her into the world together–the two sets of hands that conceived her received her.

We have spent the following days blissfully connected with the baby, as if we’ve been wrapped up in divine energy. It’s a love high unlike any other. I can’t help but think that if everyone could experience how hard it is to birth a new life into the world and how exquisite it feels to exchange this love energy with one’s baby, no one would ever dream of taking a life. Reverence for life would be the core purpose of our lives, and would thus usher in the fabled Golden Age of mankind, rectifying every suffering!

My Pregnancy Regimen

I promised to write about my pregnancy regimen, so I’ll share it briefly with you now. It was pretty simple, really–mostly what I do when I’m not pregnant with some additional things.

As always, I started my days with a good dose of exercise. That’s my first fuel–chi! Then, after lots of pure spring water, around noon I would drink about 32 ounces of green juice. I’d feast on fresh fruits throughout the afternoon as desired, either whole or blended into a smoothie, or both. The fresh fruits were the best part: a couple of cantaloupes followed by honeycrisp apples and bananas or loads of pineapple and pineapple-banana-berry smoothies with bee pollen and fresh orange juice. During the daytime, my intake was all water-containing sweet fruits.

In the evening, I would shift to vegetables, starting off with an antipasto of raw sweet potato slices, my favorite Castlevetrano and Ceringnola olives, and baked beets. I would follow that with anything from my favorite goat cheese salads (the hard raw goat cheeses are fine during pregnancy, but not the soft ones), baked sweet potatoes, or some of the fish I’d made for my husband. Unlike in my non-pregnant regimen, I did include some grains during pregnancy if I wanted them in the evening, in the form of Alvarado Street Bakery sprouted-grain bread (with organic butter and honey), Ak-Mak crackers (my pregnancy favorite), and the Kashi chocolate-chip cookies. I enjoyed Laloo’s goat’s milk ice cream in chocolate, vanilla, and cappuccino pretty much every night–but oddly, I lost the taste for chocolate during the pregnancy. That was a surprise!

My Colon Cleansing Routine During Pregnancy

From the day I found out I was pregnant to the day I delivered, my colon cleansing routine was as shameless as it is when I am not pregnant. But please be advised that colon cleansing in the form of colonics or enemas is ordinarily contraindicated during pregnancy. It is advised only for the few pregnant women who utilize colonics regularly for an extended time prior to becoming pregnant. Even then, colon cleansing must be done with expert care. I had had plenty of experience with colonics during my previous pregnancy, so I felt very secure continuing my routine. I did inform all my caregivers (midwives, back-up doctor, and doula) about my cleansing rituals and dietetic protocol. To my surprise, they were all perfectly comfortable with me doing everything I was doing. My back-up doctor even had a half-empty Organic Avenue green juice on his desk. The times, they are a changin’!

Avoiding Induction with a Post-term Baby

One of the biggest challenges was being post-term. While normal-term pregnancy is 38-42 weeks, in America most doctors want to induce the mother after 40 weeks and insist upon it by 41 weeks. Even if I had planned on giving birth in the birthing center as I had done with my son, they would have insisted I switch to the labor and delivery ward by 41 weeks, and even then I would still have been required to induce. I would have had no chance of a natural birth under those conditions!

By contrast, my midwife was totally relaxed about my term. She delivers many babies at 42 and 43 weeks and they are perfectly normal. Usually, the sonogram dates, conception dates, or ovulation dates are off and the “post-term” baby is actually right on time. I did my research and learned a great deal about this issue. In the end, I took every precaution and had the baby monitored once every 3 to 4 days to ensure my fluid levels were high (this is the best indicator of whether a baby is doing fine after 42 weeks, and my fluids were great) and I paid close attention to baby’s movement (she was my most active baby by far; she was doin’ the bunny hop pretty much all the time!). The doctors who evaluated these check-ups would tell me the baby looked perfectly well inside (one told me I’d made too good a home for her) but in the same breath would add if I were their patient, they would induce me that night. I made it through a few of these evaluations, and then the baby finally decided it was her moment.

On the festive Jewish holiday of Purim and during an enormous full moon, Electra made her way at 2:04 a.m. on March 8th. Did she show signs of being post-term? Not at all. She was coated in vernix, which would not have been the case if she’d been post-term. Post-term babies are also very wrinkly, which she was not at all. At just shy of 8 pounds, she wasn’t small, but neither was she a gigantic or overripe. Nor had she passed meconium–another hallmark of a post-mature baby. In the end, I know we all just want a healthy baby, but it may be that far too many mothers are being induced, resulting in babies who are not getting all the time they need in utero and taking away their right to their natural moment of birth. Even though I was getting impatient and my husband was getting concerned, I’m glad I had a patient, knowing midwife who kept reminding me my baby would come when she was ready.

My Nursing Diet

As I’ve transitioned to post partum and nursing, my diet is basically a grain-free version of my pregnancy diet. I’m not able to exercise yet, but I have been able to use the sauna again, so I’m starting my day with a great deep infrared sweat and shower to get the chi flowing. Then 32 to 48 ounces of green juice followed by juicy fruits (mostly navel oranges, Anjou pears, and Fuji apples right now, but I’ll be going for spring nectarines and peaches pretty soon!). My favorite nursing dinner is a real milk factory–it’s so simple and delicious, anyone can enjoy it: 10 ounces of baby (or regular organic) spinach, wilted in a bit of water and topped with 3 to 4 ounces of goat feta. It’s surprisingly delicious and so clean. You can add a few tablespoons of your favorite marinara sauce if you like. That’s it.

Please let me know if you have any questions I haven’t answered. I have lots more to share with you on other subjects–epiphanies and leaps of consciousness that I know you’ll find inspiring and helpful as you continue to experience your own leaps–but I wanted to send this out first.

Thank you all once again for your generous love and support. Here’s to ushering in the Golden Age together!

Love,
Natalia

ADDENDUM:

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to add a little addendum to the pregnancy/birth blog per your questions…herewith:

1. My Pre-natal Exercise Routine

I relished my exercise time from the first day to the last day of my pregnancy. It gave me a wonderful sense of strength and energy. While I was careful not to over exert myself, somedays I had to hold myself back because the chi flow was so strong and with my tunes on my playlist I could easily rock out the way I would if I wasn’t pregnant. I would drop my kids off at school and head to the gym where I’d jump on the elliptical trainer for 40 minutes.

I rode my bike all summer at the beach but once I got to a certain point (around 5 months pregnant), I realized my balance probably wasn’t ideal; add to that the dangers of biking in Manhattan and I realized, sadly, it was time to put my bike into storage until the spring. Since I couldn’t rebound either (the verdict is out as to whether rebounding is okay while pregnant but it didn’t feel intuitively right to me) and since running also felt intuitively wrong to me (thought I know some runners swear by it during pregnancy), I was left me with non-impact cardio which I would only find at the gym. I hadn’t been to a gym in over 12 years so it was awkward at first to return to that environment — all the people, noise, television screens flashing…I got into the groove and made it fun! I’m happy to report that I’m back on my rebounder now and I’ll soon hop back on my beloved bicycle!

While pre-natal yoga and pilates are popular, they didn’t appeal to me this time around. Like running and other impact sports, pilates and any exercises that focused on working the core also felt intuitively wrong to me during pregnancy.

2. What became of the placenta?

My Doula, Kassie Anderson, skillfully washed and prepared my placenta immediately following the birth. She brought me placenta and fruit smoothie in bed within a half hour of giving birth and I can affirm first hand that it transformed me — I was over exerted and pale and, while blissed out from love hormones and holding my baby, I was physically beat from the 20 hour labor. A few big mouthfuls of placenta later (Mmmm — surprisingly it tasted fine, watery and kind of fruity actually but I know you probably won’t beleive me) and bingo, my color and energy were restored!

Kassie placed a portion in the fridge for me to benefit from over the next three days (which I did) and the rest was placed in the freezer. The remainder will be turned into capsules and a tincture by my placenta expert, Lisa Fortin (contact info below) which I can take as needed. Apparently, the tincture is also great for the baby should she be fussy or unwell.

3. Regarding Vaccines

The decision over whether or not to vaccinate your children is a big one, and often brings with it conflicting beliefs among family members. I recommend listening to the interview with Holistic Pediatrician, Dr. Palevsky. You can find the full audio on Life Force Families, here.

Another great resource is the recent film, “The Greater Good.”
