A Trip to the GP

Hi Everyone!

More than a decade and two kids later, I thought it would be fun and educational to visit the GP for an old-fashioned physical. I thought there might be some interest in the blood work and stats of someone who has been a die-hard clean-celled enthusiast for this long of a period and at this stage of life. I realized I didn’t have a doctor, so I called my husband’s doctor’s office and was promptly given an appointment that very afternoon.

I hadn’t seen a doctor since my OB/GYN when I was pregnant with my daughter–eleven years ago! I used midwives with my son and haven’t been sick or otherwise in need of a doctor. I should note that before I learned about deep-tissue cleansing I was chronically sick with bronchial, ear, nose, and throat infections and UTIs, which sent me into the doctor’s office constantly for antibiotics. (I was even given steroids once because my chest was so inflamed that my painful coughs sounded like barks!) But since transforming my regimen, I stopped suffering from these symptoms.

It is absolutely clear to me that my body has only strengthened over the years–and I now feel the best I have ever felt in my life. Still, I thought it would be interesting to have a full checkup and have my blood work done, if only to document it.

After filling out all the paperwork, I filled four vials’ worth of blood, and then the doctor called me into his chambers.

Dr. Bromstein was sweet-natured and generous with his time. I deliberately chose a totally mainstream Upper East Side doctor. Even though there are several alternative-medical doctors in my area, I wanted this visit to be unquestionably medical-based, without any alternative influences. It turned out that Dr. Bromstein was familiar with detoxification; his associate physician was doing a cleanse. My doctor was very interested to know more about my regimen, yet he was also very quick to point out, “You know there is no medical proof to support colonics, right?” “Yes,” I assured him respectfully. I was aware that was the case.

As many of you know, my regimen is pretty radical: I have approximately 32 ounces of organic green vegetable juice every afternoon (nothing but water or herbal tea before) before my one meal a day (dinner), which consists mainly of raw vegetables, with the addition of cooked vegetables and/or raw goat cheese as desired. Otherwise, it’s an all-fruit meal. With only the very rare exception, my intake is virtually free of grains, nuts, soy, red meat, and chicken. I do occasionally enjoy a bit of fish because I love fish, not for the protein or omega content. I take absolutely NO supplements, NO medications, and NO recreational drugs (well, with the exception of the occasional glass of wine). Finally, I have also received at least several hundred colonics over the last decade (despite there being no medical evidence of their health benefits).

I know this way of living may sound insane to the uninitiated. I can appreciate that, and I’ll freely add that I am a self-declared extremist. However, in the interest of full disclosure, which is what this work is all about, I think it is important to lay everything out on the table (so to speak) to best contextualize this little field trip.

After the initial small talk, Dr. Bromstein launched our session with a battery of questions about my health, inquiring about symptoms, family history, traumatic events, operations, and so on. My answers: no symptoms, mixed family health history, a few traumatic events, and one major operation when I was four. Then, after reprimanding me for not wearing seat belts in cabs (duly noted and appreciated), I put on a pink robe and we moved into the examination room. Dr. Bromstein checked my pulse, blood pressure, heart (including EKG), lungs, ears, reflexes, and midsection, then weighed and measured me and said I could get dressed. Everything looked great, he said. I would just have to leave a urine sample and then I could go. My blood work would take a week. I thanked the good doctor and went home.

A week later, his assistant left me the blood results by phone, which I’ll share with you in full now: Bood sugar, normal. Liver and kidney function, normal. Urine, normal. And here come the flashing lights: I GREW a ¼ of an inch! Humans do not grow in their 30s; they begin the shrinking process that turns us from Amazons into little old grannies. Best, I am not anemic at all. This is a big one, as I was always anemic in my pre-cleansing days. I consume no iron supplements, and I eat no liver, red meat, or any of the other foods recommended for iron deficiency. I went from being severely and chronically anemic to non-anemic on green juice and apples! I also need to boast another rarity for women of my age in this country: a perfectly functioning thyroid.

My combined cholesterol was a whopping 229*, but the doctor emphasized that there’s no reason to be concerned because my HDL (the good cholesterol), which should be more than 40, was 92. My LDL (the bad cholesterol) was 137 (7 points above 130, which is the number doctors want to keep it below), but again, he told me he was not at all concerned. I can’t figure that one–too much goat cheese? My triglycerides count was 60. Doctors say the healthy range is less than 150. So I’m good there, too.

My vitamin D was slightly low at 37 (they want to see it reach 50), but that’s New York living for you. If only they could check it next month, when I’ll be in the South African sun all day! Am I going to bother with a vitamin D supplement? No way–but don’t tell doc!

So, in short, the good doctor fully supports my regimen. Everything looks great, and I grew a whole ¼ inch! So, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to keep on doing what I’m doing. Next decade, I’ll check in again. Hey, maybe I’ll make it to 5’ 8”!

P.S. I also had a most pleasant visit to the dentist. My teeth and gums are a throwback to the days of my favorite extinct animal, the great saber-toothed tiger! It’s all about alkalinity! If only we could bring back the species!

*I originally published, based on the message left for me by the Dr.s office that the combined choloestrol was 241 but one of my readers pointed out that this number could not be right based on the combined calculations. I checked and indeed, it was indeed the lower 229 number.

Interview with Macha and Nicole Clark of Cover Girl Culture

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday, Macha interviewed Nicole Clark, producer/writer/director of the documentary, Cover Girl Culture, and asked me to participate as well. Click the following link for this interview: Macha and Nicole Clark MP3.

You may remember Macha and I discussed this cutting-edge documentary earlier this year. You can find it here at: http://covergirlculture.com/

Separately, we are really close to lauching Life Force Parents, the special edition newsletter, and the chocolate. Please stay tuned–it won’t be long now! Thanks to all of you who have been waiting patiently and writing to us with your enthusiasm for these projects!

All Love,

Natalia

P.S. Happy Birthday to Ana and Doris, who both had their birthdays yesterday, 11/12! We’ll be out celebrating tonight!

P.P.S. Two things I’m loving now–fresh figs (especially the Brown Turkey variety) and slow-cooking Roma tomatoes. I put the oven on about 250 degrees until they wilt and then quarter them into mache salad with goat feta, fresh chopped rosemary, fresh raw diced garlic, fresh lemon juice, and a squeeze of NuNaturals liquid stevia.

Nota Bene: The figs should not be eaten with the salad. Figs should be treated like other fruit, enjoyed on an empty stomach separate from other foods. I love to eat the figs and the honey crisp apples (the greatest apple known to man in my book) as an all-fruit meal, followed by a couple of perfect organic bananas!

Talking Raw with Macha: An Audio

Hi Everyone,

After reading that many raw food gurus feel they need to reintroduce cooked foods, grains, and animal products into their diets, I thought it was important to address this. There are many reasons why this would be the case, most of which Macha and I discuss in this audio: Talking Raw with Macha MP3. Our aim for this audio was to help cut through the confusion that can ensue when this kind of information is taken out of full context. I hope you find it illuminating. Please be sure to comment with questions if you would like us to clarify anything in our next audio on the subject.

With Love & Appreciation for you always,

Natalia

Communication Overload & Updates

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a very busy start to the fall season with school and many new projects about to launch (some noted below). There are just so many seemingly endless demands on our time today, and all the while time itself seems to be speeding up. I find that unless I just say “STOP” to everything that is not immediately relevant to my family’s balance and well-being, I will fall down the rabbit hole or perhaps into the snake pit of madness.

I think anyone who wants to should be able to opt out of e-mails and texts. Yes, I know all the arguments in favor of being “connected,” but I feel the negatives can greatly outweigh the positives, and the positives are only relevant when communication devices are used as needed, not as if the user is on steroids. Sure, you can connect with old mates from grade school, or talk to your brother who’s deployed in Afghanistan, or check in with your grandmother in Mobile, Alabama. But we all know that the constant flurry of messages and instant messages can ultimately create more of a disconnect than a real, meaningful connection. Humans have always thrived in close communities with frequent, personal contact with one another. Culturally, we lost that kind of connection a long time ago, but our souls still long for it. The result: now we are binging on digital-age connectivity.

We are seldom aware of how the mad pace of connectivity chips away at us and our personal sovereignty—but it will become all too clear once it’s too late and we’ve got nothing left. Modern communication sets off a lightening-fast chain of reactionary human experience rather than the kind of active, interpersonal, spirit-to-spirit conductivity that can truly nourish and sustain us. The digital age keeps us hopped up in a hyperactive and hyper-reactive state that makes mindfulness and living in the moment practically impossible.

One of these days, after sufficiently gorging on e-mail, texting, blogging, tweeting, uploading, and downloading, we will face the paradox of feeling at once too full and completely empty. We will want to abstain from the madness of hyper-communication in some centering, grounding fashion—such as doing yoga instead of aerobics, or conserving instead of consuming, or detoxing instead of grabbing another bag of pork rinds. Once everyone has sufficiently gorged and purged, we will reserve modern communication for important exchanges with family and friends, clients and colleagues.

As a personal rule, I don’t e-mail my family unless I need to send an important document as an attachment. I prefer to speak voice to voice. And I don’t appreciate receiving texts where business is concerned. It puts me off when people take the liberty of sending me texts the moment they obtain my cell phone number—even if they only met me five minutes ago! Texting is for family and about ten of my closest friends, and sometimes when one of my children is playing at another home (or vise versa) and we parents need to connect. That is all!

The problem is one of BOUNDARIES. As we move faster and the population swells, there are fewer and fewer boundaries. This is very unhealthy. It’s actually crass and invasive, another violation of the inner space where we build and hold our power. Modern communication does not ask, but demands that we keep pace with it, at all costs. And if we don’t, we are considered rude, unprofessional, disrespectful, uncaring. But we must remember, it’s still our choice whether to engage or not in this madness—WE ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE. It’s like any other drama we choose not to engage in any longer because we see how it undermines our power.

The disengaging process, however, is not for the insecure or faint of heart. We actively choose to be the discriminating e-mailer or the anti-texter, or else these modes of communication will choose us. We must protect our life force, our great indwelling spirit, against all the pressures of modern communication, which, if we let it, will consume all of our time—at electronic speed, thousands of pixels at a time! I’m not afraid to be the anti-texter. If I give my time to the endless streams of texts and e-mails, I lose my life, literally. I squander my vitality, my moments of wholeness, my time with my beautiful children—and I gain nothing in return but a pinched expression, mental overload, and obstruction.

When we finally recognize that it’s our lives that matter—not the millions of little items that incessantly demand to be communicated, robotically, without end—then we will start to protect what’s important, to reprioritize and re-harmonize as human beings.

Of course, not all modern communication is bad. We should all find our own comfort zones within it, as my preferred modes of communication might not be yours. For instance, I would appreciate having an automated phone app that communicates to others how I choose to use texting and e-mail, and thus maintain healthy boundaries. Here’s what it might say: “In order to maintain precious clarity and inner calm, I only use e-mail and text messaging in emergency situations. Please do not be offended if I do not reply to you if it is not a critical matter, and I will reciprocate the courtesy. Please call if further discussion or clarity is needed.”

If you are feeling intensely overwhelmed and stressed for no clear reason, consider your communication practices. The disease of modern civilization is escalating. The mad will go madder to the point of self-destruction, and the rest of us will finally recognize the madness for what it is and do whatever we must to reclaim our sanity!

Okay, moving on . . . I have a few things to tell you about:

We will be launching the Natalia Rose Institute Family Community next week. Expect a full curriculum on everything from pre-conception and fertility to childbirth, nursing, infant and toddler feeding, and the older years. Everyone interested in the life stages will get something out of this—and perhaps have something to share themselves!

The Special Edition Newsletter is nearly ready. It is being created in 12 parts, so look out for one each week for twelve weeks starting on November 1. If you haven’t already signed up to receive the issues, you can do that on the home page. I hesitate to call it a newsletter because it is far more than that. It is really a book delivered in twelve parts, so I recommend saving the issues, so you may refer back to them over time. Eventually, I hope to offer the content in hard-copy book form.

The Culinary Institute is opening its doors on October 18 to our first group of student chefs. Doris will be training these students as no culinary institute has ever taught before. This is the future of food. The class is already close to full, but if you’re interested, we can take another 2–3 students. You’ll find the information on the Events page.

Emotional Eating S.O.S. is on the presses now and will be available in hard copy in just a couple of weeks. We are also developing an area on the site called the Emotional Eating S.O.S Club, to offer anyone who needs it a place to express any imbalanced consumption habits they may be struggling with. It will be coming later this fall, so stay tuned. In the meantime, I recommend familiarizing yourself with the core causes and solutions offered in the book.

I’m currently putting together a book on the program required for defying aging. If I have enough time to write, I’ll have it ready for e-book release (and available to community members) in early spring 2011. Subsequently, that will also go into hard copy production.

The Rose Bar chocolate is going to be ready to order within the next 10 days, so please stay tuned for that announcement. It really is the best 70% chocolate you will find anywhere. Ask anyone who has tried it.

You’ll also notice we have re-launched our shopping area, complete with rollover notations about our favorite products and how we use them. We also have a new shopping partner, Opensky.com. They will periodically be offering discounts on the products that go through them. You know I’m not one for promotion, but I thought some of you might be interested.

That’s all for now, but the wheels of life are always turning and the fire within is strong, so there will always be more to come.

Love to you all, and may you have the hearts of lions and the vision of eagles!

Don’t Need It. Don’t Want It. Don’t Gotta Have It.

I wish I could say it’s good to be back in the big, bad apple–my home for the past 18 years, but, in truth, re-entry into New York City after two months of surf, sand, and sun in a state of clear, connected consciousness for two and a half months has been a disturbing experience. There’s nothing like being away from all the madness to see it for what it is — a relentless assault of images — subliminal and overt — directing all receptive minds and resources toward a parade of unnecessary trends, products, and social directives. From this lucid vantage point, I see it as an obvious form of mind-control and group madness. Ask me next week and I might be sucked back in just enough to excuse it and accept it as I have historically done, so I didn’t want to wait to express this.

The world of merchandizing and image-mongering is extreme. For decades of living in LA and NYC, it had me in its clutches. I bought in, sold my soul, pursued and purchased as directed, like a marionette. Over the last ten years of deep cellular cleansing, my ability to see through the programming increased significantly, but today it is so clear that I simply can’t find the purpose in any of it or support it at all anymore. Life cannot grow through concrete. Dead indoor air, chlorinated water, processed food, greedy pursuits, and the like cannot support life.

I have spoken several times about the trajectory of mutation–but to reiterate, it grows into disfigured rogue form over time as the mutation grows more pronounced. Physical, psychological, mental and emotional imbalances begin with lesser symptoms and bit by bit, those symptoms grow more pronounced, more acute as their cause goes uncorrected. If corrections are not made to the trajectory and the organism fails to be restored, the future generations of both the cells within that organism and the generations of that organism’s offspring (remember we always look at an organism holographically, appreciating the micro- and macro-cosmic effects) will carry more dire mutations. This is how we read the Universal Laws of Life and can thereby predict the outcomes of all causes. In the case of our civilization’s life-deteriorating trajectories, we have received countless warning signs of where it is headed (too many warning signs to mention here, but think autism, schizophrenia, infertility, depression, Parkinson’s, etc.). So we can predict that the next generations are going to greater expressions of these symptoms. If you conjured up images of zombie-like monsters depicted in movies like 21 Days Later,Night of the Living Dead, and Shawn of the Dead, you would be spot-on.

Think that might be a stretch? It turns out that right on 23rd Street and Park Avenue, where my husband’s offices are, there are a number of people exhibiting zombie-like symptoms. My husband and his colleague were telling me about it last night. There are many of them–pharma-addicts, a.k.a. pharmaceutical junkies. Apparently, they freeze. That’s right. They actually freeze in place–anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours or more–while clutching a cup or making a gesture or just sitting or standing, often with their head dropped down. Pharmaceutical drugs, my friends. If this is what extra dosages do, do you think small “recommended” doses are safe? Is our way of life a highway to a world of human zombies? How about that expression on your ten-year-old’s face while watching TV programs and ads? Is truth not only stranger than fiction but on par with horror? Is life mimicking horror, or horror mimicking life?

(Note: as I’m reading this to Ana, she nods and tells me she has seen them too. Surely, this is not a stand-alone event. Perhaps it’s just the proximity to a big-name drugstore.) Apparently the dealers are pretty easy to spot. Are pharma-drug ringleaders modern-day drug dealers? What’s more, the squirrels are going the way of the snake pit too. Apparently, urban squirrels in many of the local parks are jumping on people with packaged foods and drinks. They too have become addicted to the intensely addictive substances in our foods and are insistent upon getting their fix!

Everyone knows New Yorkers are the trendsetters. If this is any indication of what’s to come and what’s brewing, is it really the trajectory we want to be on? And let’s face it, we’re in it together. Separation consciousness is an illusion. Life is a great web. Parts disconnected from the vines of life (carrying vitality from the great interconnected organism of planetary life) cannot live for long. They wither or mutate, or both. If these people become zombies, cleansers are affected too! Do you think their choices do not impact you? Do you think their refuse does not enter the water supply or that animals that become addicted to the substances they ingest from our garbage don’t make them dangerous to you? Small consolation, but at least it sounds like you’re safer carrying around apples than chips!

Sure, you may be cleansing, but what is your teenager sneaking from the local drugstore? Do you think there are no pharma-junkie dealers in your neck of the woods? Can you be sure they or their clients won’t freeze while going 65 mph on the highway? We are all connected. Awareness followed by conscious change is the only way out. There is a great southern African philosophy called Ubuntu that essentially states, “I am who I am because of who we all are.” Archbishop Desmond Tutu offered this definition: A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.

Are we losing our Ubuntu? Are we choosing greed and dead things over connection and living things?

Going through piles of mail, I came across several catalogs. One popular brand screamed from the cover: “You Need It. You Want It. You’ve Gotta Have It!” As I tossed it into the recycling bin, I thought, No, I don’t need it. I don’t want it and I don’t gotta have it.

The lyrics of this great Elton John song, “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters,” nicely echoes my sentiments about my long-beloved city:

Until you’ve seen this trash can dream come true
You stand at the edge while people run you through
And I thank the lord there’s people out there like you
I thank the lord there’s people out there like you

Subways no way for a good man to go down
Rich man can ride and the hobo he can drown
And I thank the lord for the people I have found
I thank the lord for the people I have found

While Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
Sons of bankers, sons of lawyers
Turn around and say good morning to the night
For unless they see the sky
But they can’t and that is why
They know not if it’s dark outside or light

And Happy New Year to all my Jewish friends!

Love,
Natalia

P.S. I thank the Lord that there are people out there like you.

Are You Ready for A Higher Love?

I rarely feature a full-out endorsement for a book in this blog space, but I’ve just read and digested what may just be the clearest, most revelatory, and most helpful books on modern relationships for our time. The book is called Grant Me A Higher Love. It’s written by gifted mystic and counselor Cindi Sanasone-Braff, whom I’ve had the great pleasure of communicating with over the phone and hope to meet in person as soon as she is nearby on Long Island. I was moved to call her immediately to thank her for this great contribution that will no doubt bring about greater states of relationships for all who open their hearts to her teachings.

This is one of those very special books that you will not be able to put down and that will forever change how you view relationships. It removes old lenses and enables you to see relationship dynamics with radical clarity. This is a book that anyone at any stage of relationship–romantic, platonic, or familial–should read. I cannot recomend it enough. I know you will enjoy and benefit!

Here’s to higher love,
Natalia
